Ilhan Omar is a disgrace to the Democratic Party and to America as a member of Congress.
Fortunately, she won’t be there long.
The thing that the freshman congresswoman from Minnesota is best known for is not her dedication to her constituents, but her hatred of Israel and the Jews.
Her anti-Semitic outbursts have finally become too much even for Democrats, and Omar was publicly reprimanded by the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Rep. Eliot Engle (D-NY).
Last week, Omar, who is Muslim, appeared at a political even in Washington, where she repeated the age-old anti-Semitic trope that Jews are silently controlling American politics.
“I want to talk about the political influence in this country that says it is OK for people to push for allegiance to a foreign country,” she said. “I want to ask why is it OK for me to talk about the influence of the NRA, of fossil fuel industries, or big pharma, and not talk about a powerful lobbying movement that is influencing policy.”
Fox News reports that Engle condemned Omar’s remarks as a “vile anti-Semitic slur” and demanded that she issue a public apology.
The silver lining here is that Omar’s chances of reelection are diminishing by the day.
The Democratic Party’s old guard is almost certainly going to do everything it can to make sure Omar and other radical congressional freshmen don’t return after the next election. They’re simply too big a headache for the party.
Of course, there is a growing number of lunatic progressives out there who could manage to keep Omar and her ilk in office. But if they succeed, then the Democratic Party as we know it today will truly be finished.
