Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) was just caught red-handed exploiting campaign finance loopholes to funnel campaign funds to her daughter, Karen Waters.
Maxine Waters has been under fire for her questionable use of campaign funds for several months now. The first of several Federal Election Commission complaints were filed in July. The complaint claimed that Waters had broken campaign finance laws.
A long history of questionable campaign finance practices
Fox News reported in August that Waters has been using campaign funds to pay her daughter for well over a decade.
Waters also came under fire in October of 2018 for exchanging spots on her slate mailers for thousands in cash from state politicians. This strategy allowed her to get around federal campaign contribution limits.
The Washington Free Beacon pointed out that slate mailers have fallen out of favor in recent years.
An FEC complaint was filed by The National Legal and Policy Center, but so far, Waters has yet to face any consequences for her shady dealings.
Nepotism at it’s finest
Karen Waters has benefitted greatly from her Mother’s campaign dollars, according to FEC filings. Of the $182,323 owed in total debts by Maxine Waters’ campaign this quarter, $133,022.15 of that is earmarked to be paid to Karen.
So what is Karen Waters being paid for? She’s been tasked with overseeing Waters’ slate mailers operations.
Maxine Waters has woven a tangled web of shady financial dealings, and it’s finally catching up with her. Waters has refused to address the accusations, but the FEC complaints are piling up.
