A source also told Fox News that Barr is working “collaboratively” on the investigation with FBI Director Chris Wray, CIA Director Gina Haspel, and Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, and that Durham is also working directly with Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz, who is currently reviewing allegations of misconduct in issuance of FISA warrants, and the role of FBI informants during the early stages of the investigation.
Elder Patriot’s Opinion – Assuming those Barr has welcomed into his working group can be counted on for their fealty to the Constitution and not the swamp (a big assumption), a widening investigation will be accompanied by a commensurate increase in the corrupt activity that is discovered.
Consider the entrenched corrupt interests that Barr is now confronting.
For more than two-and-a-half years we’ve witnessed career officials at the top of the DOJ, the FBI, and the State Department efforting to protect both their own misfeasance and the interests of the institutions that they corrupted.
Then there’s also the career mid-tier officials and investigators that remain embedded despite the high number of top tier firings and resignations that we have already seen occur.
All of this leads to the concern that evidence of corruption will be so overwhelming that it imperils important agencies’ ability to continue performing its necessary functions.
My experience in the swamp, though only on the periphery, tells me there’s far more corruption, committed by far more people, yet to be discovered.
If that proves to be the case, even if Barr successfully uncovers and maps the entire corrupt construct (not very likely), it would leave Barr choosing between who to charge, who to quietly give their separation notices, and who to let skate, in order to salvage the ability of these highly necessary institutions to function in a meaningful way.
There’s also the possibility (highly likely) that each of the persons Barr enlists will have their own protective agendas, as well.
Barr is now facing the same conundrum President Trump has faced, who he can trust and who he can’t… and what to do about it.
